Fire Suppression

Department Details

Firefighting today is truly one of the most dangerous and demanding professional careers. The unpredictability of the numerous types of emergency calls requires a firefighter to be able to respond immediately to a variety of hazardous situations from structure fires to hazardous material incidents.

Our department is made up of 21 career staff and 35 volunteers. They take great pride in their endeavor to provide an all-hazards approach of protecting the community and surrounding areas. We provide full fire protection, public education, and fire prevention services to 6.2 square miles inside the City and Advanced Life Support transportation services to a large portion of the Lower Yakima Valley.

Cross Training

All personnel are also cross trained to provide suppression and EMS services in our community. As a part of our suppression and prevention programs, the staff conducts company-level fire inspections of businesses and pre-fire planning of commercial buildings. We also staff first-out apparatus for Yakima County Fire District #5, Station 13, on an automatic aid basis.
