EXECUTIVE ORDER 11-02
FLAG HONORS FOR THE VICTIMS OF THE ATTACK
IN SUTHERLAND SPRINGS, TEXAS

WHEREAS, pursuant to Chapter 1.14 of the Sunnyside Municipal Code (SMC), the City Council has charged the Mayor with the authority to direct the lowering of the flag of the United States as a sign of respect on specified occasions; and,

WHEREAS, on November 6th, 2017, the President of the United States issued a proclamation ordering the flags of the United States lowered in honor of the victims of the attack in Sutherland Springs, Texas on November 5th, 2017; and,

WHEREAS, Washington Governor Jay Inslee also issued an Executive Order on this same day, joining with the President, and directing the flags to be lowered.

NOW THEREFORE, I, James A. Restucci, Mayor of the City of Sunnyside, Washington, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the laws of the State of Washington and on behalf of the City Council do hereby order and direct:
The City Manager or his designee to lower the flag of the United States and Washington State at all city facilities pursuant to SMC 1.14.030 effective immediately and that the flags remain at half-staff until close of business or sunset, Thursday, November 9th, 2017.

IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this 6th day of November, 2017 and caused the Seal of the City of Sunnyside to be affixed.
