Defective Brake Light Leads to Drug Bust
Sunnyside, WA- At approximately 10:30 last night Officer TJ Orth initiated a traffic stop on a black 1992 Honda Civic for a defective brake light. Upon contact with the vehicle Officer Orth noticed the smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle. He asked the driver of the vehicle for his license and registration and observed baggies (used for packaging drugs for sale) in the glove box; the vehicle registration also had marijuana in the folds of the paper. As the four occupants of the vehicle were being taken into custody for possession of marijuana one of the back seat passengers (Cisneros, Jose Antonio) was searched incident to arrest and found to be in possession of a digital scale, 34 grams of marijuana, over $1200 in cash, also near his seat in the vehicle was a box of .22 caliber bullets. Cisneros was taken into custody and booked on charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver RCW 69.50.401. The driver of the vehicle (Espindola, Ricardo Jr) was taken into custody on for Possession of Marijuana Prohibited RCW 9.14.010 and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia prohibited RCW 9.14.030 when a glass pipe was found in the driver’s side door where he was sitting. Upon arrival at the Sunnyside City Jail the front passenger (Chaves, Edgar Bernardo) was found to have 3 grams of marijuana in his possession. Officer Orth was assisted by Officer Rob Layman and Officer Darin Scott.
