Assault with a Firearm

Sunnyside, WA- Just after 0230 this morning Sunnyside Police responded to an assault with a firearm in the 700 block of S 13^th St in Sunnyside. The victims, both adult males, were at the residence when they were hit by gunfire from occupant(s) of a passing vehicle. They were both transported to a local hospital by private vehicle. Ricardo Cortez, 29 years old of Sunnyside, sustained a single gunshot wound to the torso.  Daniel Lopez, 29 years old of Sunnyside, sustained two gunshot wounds to the legs. According to witnesses the suspect vehicle, a silver sport utility vehicle, was last seen heading southbound on 13^th St from the location. Evidence was recovered at the scene. No weapons have been recovered at this time. This case is under investigation and anyone with any information should call 509.836.6200.
